HISTORY OF PRAIRIE PALS

I began Prairie Pals because I saw a need for non-traditional boarding.  Many dogs (including my own) do not do well in a kennel situation.  They get nervous and scared, and end up upset and sick.  We first started out just watching our friends' dogs at our house and realized that the dogs enjoyed each other's company, the freedom to run and play, and the attention and love they recieved throughout the day.  Instead of getting scared and upset, they had fun and enjoyed their time with us, and we enjoyed having them!  The dogs simply became a part of our family while their owners were away.  So, in May of 2013, I began Prairie Pals Pets with an emphasis on dog boarding at our Pet Inn.  However, I also do pet sitting at your home if you prefer for your dog to stay at home or if you have multiple types of pets.

OUR FAMILY

Mike and I have 5 children.  Our entire family loves animals.  We have 4 dogs, 2 horses,  2 goats, 5 chickens,  3 bunnies, 2 salamanders, 2 fish, and 1 barn cat.  We all help to take care of them and love spending time with all of them.

OUR EXPERIENCE

I have extensive experience working with animals for over 15 years.  I have worked at 2 different Veterinary Clinics in the Colorado Springs area as a Receptionist and Assistant.  I have experience working with and pet sitting for horses, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, quail, exotic birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, cats, dogs, and small animals.  I also have experience in basic dog training.  I have completed college courses in Zookeeping Technology including Mammal Husbandry, Animal Behavior, Animal Biology, and Fish and Reptiles.

My husband Mike also helps with taking care of the dogs that stay with us.  His experience includes helping to care for our animals, owning many dogs throughout the years, and training our dog, Ballou, to be a Pet Therapy Dog.  In the past, he took Ballou weekly to Penrose-St. Francis Hospital to visit with patients.  Now Ballou is retired and gets to take it easy at home.
